ANIMALS ARE GREAT

I love all animals and creatures, and I have owned dogs, cats, birds, guinea pig, hamster, rabbit, and a white hen called Lady. Because a lot of my time is spent taking care of my husband who has dementia I was not sure I would ever be able to find the time to care for a pet as well, but I find that I can and that there are people out there who will help when I can't do it myself, there are dog walkers and pet associations that will give advice and even make arrangements for the pet in times of crisis. I am not advocating that every carer should get a pet as it is a responsibility for life, and may not in certain circumstances be sensible, and it is most important to go into all the details involved in owning a pet before getting one, a dog or even a cat maybe too much for some to consider, but there are smaller more managable pets that may be suitable.

I would just like to tell you how Barnaby our dog has fitted lovingly into our lives, he has been a great help to my husband and has encouraged Ken to keep fit when going for a walk and brings laughter, comfort and joy to both of us, and Ken acheives satisfaction in some simple duties toward him. Barnaby is alert and keeps my husband Ken alert, whether it be a bird, or any other animal I have found them all to be a healing experience, I would like to hear from everyone about their pets so please send your experiences, stories, and photographs, and any useful information about all your different pets here to share with us the joy they bring. Note if it is too difficult for you to own a dog, why not treat yourself to finding the time to take a walk in the fresh air and adopt a dog occasionaly to go with you,? your local dog shelter, or The Cinnamon Trust UK will give you details.

Love from Pamela

INTRODUCING BARNABY

barnaby

chihuahaThis is Barnaby Max whose name means great answer to a prayer, and that is what he is, his name says evrything about him.

It is true though difficult to believe that my tiny dog originated thousands of years ago from the wolf, but he certainly believes in his little head that he is a big dog and has no fear in his little body. He guards and behaves as any big dog would, he is a loyal, faithful, friendly, affectionate friend and companion, he likes children and other dogs too. Big dogs respect him and children love him, when he was a puppy his favourite place was sitting on my head, and as he got bigger it was then on my shoulder, and then on the palm of my hand which he still does today. His favourite treats are tiny bits of cheese, melon, and ice cream, and his favourite toys are teddy bears and pom poms, he is a playful little boy and not averse to wearing a funny hat, and a coat in winter, I sometimes carry him in a shoulder bag and his cuteness gets him everywhere when I go shopping. He would like you to know a little about his ancestry, his breed originated from South America and Mexico, there are many myths and stories about Chihuahuas who come in many colours, short and long silky haired coats, it is said their history goes back to the Incas and during difficult times when invaded by the Spanish conquistadors, these little dogs were eaten, this was stopped by the Incas who then made them as sacred to them as cats were to the Egyptions, whether this is true or not who can say, myself I used to dislike any doggies licking my hands, I have athritis in both my hands and found that after Barnaby licked my hands that the pain actualy eased, maybe all dogs have this ability, some things are a mystery, these little dogs are survivors and even to this day some of them run wild in some parts of America. As pets it is easy to spoil them but wise not to over do it because they are like any other dog apart from their size and like to be treated and respected the same as big dogs. They need and deserve a lot of attention in caring for them, anyone who considers a Chihuahua as a pet please make sure to have all information about them, their care and needs, and for any dog or pet you consider.
