Beating Depression

Depression gets to all of us at one time or another, however when it takes hold and lasts for a lengthy period of time it is then best to question the reason why, even if the reason is not an obvious one. First ask yourself when the depression started was it stress - or loss in some way, or any other reason, and ask yourself if you are going to allow whatever it is to disempower you. Self affirmation is important, self talk preferably in front of a mirror every morning saying out loud that you believe in yourself, that you are confident and important, and repeat all positive affirmations that way every morning and silently to yourself throughout the day.
E F T Website Emotional Freedom Technique is a great help, There is usualy more than one symptom of depression to mention a few that may occur.

moon This is not to be confused with Bipolar where these symptoms are more exaggerated and mood swings are more pronounced and are in definite need of appropriate Medical help. Although therapy can be of help for any of the above symptoms of depression there are indeed many things that anyone suffering from it can do to help themselves. Diet is important and there are dietitions who can give good advice, and naturopaths who will suggest alternatives to drugs that can help with the sleep problem.

First of all is to get something that will increase motivation see NLP website on what is NLP page. Making the first step is is always the most difficult and exercise is the best way to get moving, the gym is a good start and there is also the possibility of meeting new friends. Outdoor pursuits of any kind are good whether it is football, fishing, or just rambling, or find a part time voluntary job you would be interested in, if you are housebound there are gentler choices, take time out for yourself, listen to your favourite music, take Yoga lessons, do breathing exercises, do a home study course, painting, or writing. Whatever is chosen it should be something positive and gives a sense of achievement.

There are many good self help books, keep looking till you find one that suits you. Most people who suffer from depression feel lonely, it is possible to feel lonely even when in a crowd, it is well to remember that even when lonely we are never alone, there are many people with the same problem, but it is only a problem if we choose to make it a problem, there are only situations, change yourself and that will change the situation, sometimes when depressed it is difficult to see the good things that surround us, or even anything to laugh at. Find them, look carefully at the stars, or at the perfect formation of a flower. Look at the antics of monkeys or meer cats, and if you think that there is no one worse off than you. Find them too, there is always someone who will need you, do what ever it takes to help them and your self esteem will grow. Nothing that I have said is difficult unless it is chosen to be, sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to do, it is like losing something that has been in front of your nose all the time. The REAL YOU, ok it takes effort, but well worth it, you will smile.
