NEVER TOO OLD TO CARE
There is so much I could say about Cathy, I have known her for about fifteen years, and yet although we have never met we have had a wonderful friendship through letters, and in spite of being an ocean apart we have been like next door neighbours. Cathy lives in New York State America with her lovely husband Harry, they have both cared for Jeanie who is disabled and has lived with them most of her life, Cathy is seventy two years old now and Harry is seventy eight, and they both still work hard, it would be difficult for me to write about Cathy and the wonderful caring work she has done in her life and still does today, her letters are always full of news and care, so in her own words here is an excerpt from one of her letters. There is always some place to run to and I am always glad when I can stay at home. Friday I am working half a day and then going to the hospital to attend a celebration party with Barbara, that hospital has a nursing home on half of the second and third floors, it is going to be a tea party and fashion show and probably some goodies to snack on, I will spend the afternoon there till about 4pm and then I will go to make a lady's supper for her and stay about two hours, her daughter June called me because Sally had a stroke in 2000 but she can walk using a quad cane, and her right hand is paralysed, it also affected her speech, her husband died years ago, she is a lovely lady my age seventy two, she lives with June and David, I go just when they go away, and on Wednesday and Friday I go and spend one and a half hours with her just to keep her company as she gets lonesome when they are at work. Saturday I will work half a day and then take my friend Pat to the cemetery to place flowers on her family's graves, then we will go and visit a friend of hers and I will get back about five pm so I can go to Sally's again, it's quite a long drive each way. Tuesday I was off again but I didn't do a lot as my legs have been paining me, I am still sore from my treatment yesterday, I hurt all over most of the time and can't put all my weight on my leg since I sprained it. Harry and I celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary, we didn't do anything special just went to a beautiful restaurant where they have nine dining rooms and it's just beautiful, I have never heard of anyone not liking the food, people come from all over to eat there. Next month we are going to a bridal shower the girls grandmother Linda and I have been friends about fifty four years or so, the shower will be held in West Valley and the wedding will be in Ellicottville, it is a ski resort and they have golf and swimming in the summer, it is a beautiful town and people come from all over even Canada, lots of wealthy people go there. People going to Canada now have to have a passport and that's just started so I don't think so many will be going over there like they used to and they will lose a lot of business as I think the passport is a hundred dollars or it might be two hundred, this is to stop aliens from coming in, people who go to see Niagara Falls will stay on the American side. It isn't worth getting a passport unless one goes over there often, people are not happy about it .. Harry has just gone to town to see about the changes on the highway, his arthritis is bad but we cope with it and glad we don't have anything worse. Things are good at our church and we love our pastor, he has been with us a while now, everyone likes him and he preaches deep from the bible, he and his wife have a big family, and one of the sons is studying to be a missionary We realy wanted another watch dog, we only have one now as our four old dogs have gone, but not sure we could manage another, I haven't much work right now but that could change any time, I am usually busy all the time running to work, running to the nursing home to look after Teresa as well but I love it, and I am going to another nursing home to see friends who don't have anyone much who goes to see them, I also do some shopping for people who don't have anyone to do that either, I might bake a loaf of bread for another of my friends tonight, I haven't used my bread machine for a while so I hope it turns out alright, Jeanie is a sweetheart and Harry helps take good care of her for me as well, take good care of yourself. Love Cathy
