Stories from Young Carers
When I was eleven years old my mum got cancer, I didn't know what cancer was but I soon found out when my mum
got very poorely, my dad worked very hard and did all he could for mum and me, I used to get up for school and
tidy up while dad made toast for us, and when my mum got really ill and was in bed, I used to wash my own clothes
and make her bed, and I learned how to make pancakes and poached eggs, I used to sit on my mums bed and she told
me lots of stories, and when my dad was working late, I would wash mums hands and face, and get a clean nightie for her,
and sometimes do my homework but couldn't always if there was housework to do like hoover the floors and wash dishes,
I missed my mum not coming to my school when all the other parents were there, and dad couldn't go cause he was working,
I was very lonely, it hurt because my mum wanted to do all the things she used to do and couldn't, I love my mum,
she's in heaven now. By Anne age 13yrs.
